Weekend with My Little Mermaids at Great Wolf Lodge đŸș🌊

Y’all, I’m convinced my girls are part fish. Or maybe part mermaid—because from the minute we unpacked the swimsuits at Great Wolf Lodge in LaGrange, those two went full Ariel mode and basically lived in the water all weekend.

We kicked things off at Slap Tail Pool, the wave pool where Jenna was clinging to Daddy for dear life yelling, “Go farther out!” while Jessica dove headfirst into every wave like she was auditioning for “Baywatch: Kid Edition.” No fear. None.

Next up was Crooked Creek, the lazy river that somehow never feels lazy when you’re floating with kids who think it’s a race. We made about 47 laps before someone declared, “Just one more time!” for the fifteenth time.

Jessica found her new obsession—Big Foot Pass, that floating lily pad course that tests both balance and your ability not to yell “Don’t fall in!” every 10 seconds. If you’ve got a brave little one who wants to try it, hit it in the morning. She went three times back-to-back before there was even a line!

Then came River Canyon Run, which we all rode together—twice, because poor Jenna somehow ended up going backward both times and declared herself “retired” after that. Jessica, on the other hand, couldn’t get enough of Rapid Racer, so we took turns taking her while the other parent chilled with Jenna.

Surprisingly, the girls barely touched Cub Paw Pool this time. Ever since that “slide shoving” incident last July (one pushy older kid + one teary Jessica = zero interest), they’ve been happy to skip it.

A little tip if you go: the water park starts to fill up around 12:30, then clears out again near dinner. We hit it early each morning, played hard until 1, grabbed lunch, rested, and then went back for round two before closing. Worked like a charm!

The girls loved the nightly dance party—picture a sea of tiny humans in pajamas, jumping up and down under glowing lights with bubble wands and glow sticks. Pure chaos, pure joy.

Now, you can eat on property, but here’s our routine:

  • Breakfast: Waffle House just off property. Quick, delicious, friendly, and never too crowded (God bless those hashbrowns).

  • Lunch: Pizza inside the water park—easy peasy and surprisingly tasty.

  • Dinner: A quick drive to Exit 18 for some local eats.

This trip, we tried Woods End Creamery for ice cream. The “stripe flavor” soft serve machine was down most of the weekend (apparently no one wanted to clean it—relatable), but we managed to snag some before we left. Mine had caramel and chocolate stripes and may not have looked like the picture, but oh my word, it was good.

Oh! And don’t miss the free wolf ears from the gift shop. You just ask how many you need, and off you go—little wolves everywhere. Ours lasted until the first dance party before disappearing into the abyss, but no worries—they’ll give you more!

Here’s the kicker: my girls were more excited about this trip than our Disney Cruise in May. Y’all. More than Disney. They even ranked it up there with the Royal Caribbean trip we took two years ago. Guess I know where our next family “vacation” is headed!

If you’re looking for a fun, easy weekend getaway—Great Wolf Lodge LaGrange is a solid win. The girls already said when they grow up, they want to work there so they can “go every day.” I told them, “Shoot, maybe I’ll apply too. I could rock a wolf ear.”
