Cosmo’s Weekend Adventures
Well, friends, let me tell you—this weekend, our household grew by one. No, I didn’t adopt another puppy (Lord knows Nugget is already enough chaos on four paws). Jessica finally got her first grade take home project: the class pet stuffy, Cosmo. Y’all, I have not seen a child so giddy since Chick-fil-A started serving mac n’ cheese.
Every Friday since August, Jess has walked out of carpool just hoping Cosmo would be hers. And this week—finally—she came strutting out, grinning ear to ear, hugging that little stuffed pup like he was a golden ticket to Willy Wonka’s. She plopped him in the front seat beside me and rattled off all the adventures Cosmo has had with the other kids. Meanwhile, my mama brain was already panicking. Their dad was out of town, I had both girls, Nugget, and now one more “child” to keep alive. Lord help me.
We hit the ground running: Cosmo did yoga and tumbling on the gymnastics mat, attended a sugar cookie and chocolate milk party (with Nugget and Ms. B the dog circling like cookie sharks), and even got himself a makeover—Elsa braid, sparkly top, rainbow tutu. He was fabulous.
Saturday, we tried to take Cosmo to an apple farm… but after sitting in Atlanta traffic for an hour and only making it 8 miles (bless it), we rerouted to an indoor play place. Turns out, Cosmo loves slides, trampolines, and Boba tea. He also enjoys driveway chalk masterpieces with sticky bubbles.
By Sunday, he’d been to Trader Joe’s (riding in the small buggy), Target (living his best escalator/cart life), and a neighborhood cookout with face paint and live music. We wrapped it all up with a movie night: popcorn, comfy pillows and blankets, and Disney+.
Come Monday morning, Jess had tears in her big brown eyes when it was time to give him back. My mama heart nearly split in two. But Cosmo went back to class with a scrapbook full of memories, and I tucked away my own set of photos for Jessica’s first grade book. One day, when she’s taller than me and rolling her eyes at all my stories, I’ll look back at this weekend and remember my sweet six-year-old—sparkly tutu dog, sticky bubbles, and all.
God bless, y’all. Mama is exhausted.
