The Dreaded Closet Clean-Out 😵💫
The Dreaded Closet Clean-Out 😵💫
Y’all. It finally happened.
I have been putting off the closet clean-out like it’s a root canal with a copay, but injustice can’t be ignored any longer. These girls have sprouted faster than kudzu in July, and I’m standing in their closets pulling out what are now high-water pants and accidental crop tops wondering how this all went sideways so fast.
Meanwhile, my husband is hollerin’ from the other room about credit card balances, the kids are demanding laundry service for the three items that still fit, and I’m trying to mentally calculate how many Target trips this situation is about to require.
No one warns you how fast they outgrow everything. Not just clothes — everything.
Physically? Blink and they’ve gone up a size.
Socially? Blink again and suddenly Minnie Mouse is “for babies,” Barbie is “not cool,” and I’m informed this information should have been obvious.
Hello Kitty is still allowed, so praise be for small miracles 🙌
And apparently we can never, ever have enough:
Capybara
Panda
Axolotl
Sloth
Llama
(Which feels very on-brand for kids who move at three different speeds and still need snacks every 12 minutes.)
Of course, I know deep in my mama heart that all of this could change in the next 10 minutes. Today’s “obsession” is tomorrow’s “why do I even own this?” — which leaves me sitting on the floor surrounded by piles, asking the age-old question:
👉 Do I try to sell this and make $7.42… or do I save my sanity and donate it?
Because nothing tests a mom’s patience quite like:
Folding clothes that don’t fit
Sorting clothes they refuse to wear
Replacing clothes while being told to “cut back”
Bless it. We try.
If you need me, I’ll be labeling bags KEEP, DONATE, and WHY DO I OWN THIS — and then rewarding myself with coffee strong enough to wake the dead.
Solidarity, mamas. Closet season is upon us. 🫠
