Merry Christmas, Y’all 🎄

Well friends, here we are — smack dab in the middle of Christmas week, where the spirit is high, the calendars are full, and the weather… well… decidedly not giving Hallmark vibes.

We will not be waking up to a White Christmas. There will be no roaring fire, no fuzzy socks by the hearth, and hot chocolate might honestly feel like a questionable choice. The forecast is calling for 70s and partly cloudy, which means the matching Christmas pajamas I so confidently bought are now looking more like festive sauna wear. Bless it. That’s a Southern Christmas for you — Santa in short sleeves and Mama turning the AC back on.

The girls being out of school, though… that’s where things get interesting. I love them. Truly. Deeply. Would throw myself in front of traffic for them. But goodness gracious, it is impossible to get much done when I’m needed to guide, supervise, explain, clarify, referee, and approve every single thing. Days away from school are filled with a steady soundtrack of:

“I’m bored.”

“I don’t know what to do.”

“Will you play with me?”

And it starts approximately seven minutes after their eyes open!

The good news? We adapt. We survive. We improvise. Corn hole and fake snowballs will make an appearance on the back porch. Gingerbread houses might be built in the driveway like the Southern rebels we are. And we will absolutely take full advantage of nearby playgrounds — letting them scream, run, climb, and burn off every ounce of energy without setting off the noise alert on my watch or requiring me to vacuum afterward. A true Christmas miracle.

Inside, Christmas dinner planning is well underway — and y’all, it’s shaping up to be real good. We’re keeping it cozy and classic with a fully-cooked turkey from Fresh Market (because I know my limits), corn casserole, a not-your-typical green bean casserole, garlic cheese biscuits (think Red Lobster, but more garlic, more butter, more cheese), cornbread dressing, homemade cranberry sauce, and orange slice cookies. It’s comfort food, Southern style, and it’s going to hit just right.

As for Christmas presents — I am proud (and a little scared) to report that they are all purchased, delivered, and sorted. The spare bedroom currently looks like Santa’s regional distribution center. There are piles everywhere:

to Jenna from Santa

to Jessica from Santa

to Jessica from Jenna

to Jenna from Jessica

to Jessica from Mom & Dad

to Jenna from Mom & Dad

to Nugget from Jessica

to Nugget from Jenna

…and stocking stuffers for Jessica, Jenna, and yes — Nugget.

There is a method to the madness. I swear it. Wrapping paper, tape, and name tags are standing by. I just need a few more gift bags and some tissue paper, and then I’ll begin the annual tradition of wrapping 99% of the presents myself, before enlisting the girls to help wrap each other’s gifts — which will inevitably involve too much tape, crooked bows, and hearts absolutely bursting with pride.

And honestly? That’s the good stuff.

As we wrap up 2025, my heart is full. Full of gratitude, full of love, full of chaos, and full of hope. This year brought lessons, laughter, and a whole lot of motherhood moments I wouldn’t trade for anything. I’m closing this chapter feeling thankful — for family, for grace, for growth, and for the reminder that perfection was never the goal anyway.

We’ll be back in 2026 — ready or not — diving headfirst into the next season of motherhood: enrolling Jenna in Kindergarten, planning Digital Learning Days, signing up for winter camps, summer camps, and Vacation Bible School, planning our summer vacation, celebrating Nugget’s first birthday, and navigating all the daily details that make up this beautiful, exhausting, joy-filled life.

From our home to yours, I wish you the merriest Christmas, the happiest of holidays, and a New Year filled with hope, health, laughter, and just enough coffee to get through it all. Here’s to more memories, more grace, and plenty of joy in 2026.

Merry Christmas, y’all. 💛
