Fall Break Is Over: Send Coffee and Patience
Well y’all, Fall Break has come to a screeching halt and this morning it was back to reality. No more lazy mornings in mismatched pajamas, no more staying at the park ‘til dark, no more pretending I don’t see the growing pile of laundry because, “Hey, it’s break!” Nope. It’s back to that 6 a.m. alarm clock that feels like it’s going off at midnight.
Back to the carpool line shuffle—sitting with one eye open and one hand on my travel mug, while silently praying the teacher opening my car door doesn’t notice the Goldfish crumbs that Nugget tried (and failed) to vacuum up last week. Because nothing says “together mom” like a spotless car interior when you know good and well it’s held together by crushed granola bars and stale fries from July.
Back to packing snacks and lunches—goodbye easy breezy “grab a popsicle from the freezer, baby.” Hello bento-box-ish attempts where I try to pass off apple slices and cheese sticks as gourmet. And let’s not even talk about digging through the laundry to find clean, wrinkle-free school clothes instead of the shorts and T-shirt combo that got us through Fall Break just fine.
Oh, and because the universe enjoys a good laugh—both girls have extra things due first thing back. Jessica has her Hispanic Heritage Week project (which I’m pretty sure weighs more than her backpack), and Jenna has a birthday card for a boy in her class that she picked out very seriously, like it was a marriage proposal. Heaven forbid we forget either one. And just for a little extra fun, tomorrow Jenna is the leader for her class and has to take a share - which I have already attached to her school bag (Thank you, Alexa for the alarm reminder this afternoon!!)
So, here we go again. Wish me luck as I dive back into the morning chaos with coffee in one hand, a lint roller in the other, and Nugget chasing us out the door like he’s late for work too.
Because if there’s one thing I’ve learned—it’s that Fall Break may end, but the circus never does.
