Mom Hack: The Car Backup Bin
You’re finally in the car.
Everyone is buckled.
You’re actually leaving on time.
And then:
“Mom! I forgot a hair tie!”
Or:
“I need socks!”
Or somebody spills something before you’ve even left the neighborhood.
This is why I love a car backup bin.
The Hack
Keep a small container in the car stocked with things your family actually tends to need.
Not a miniature Target.
Just the repeat offenders.
For us, that might mean things like:
Hairbrush
Hair ties
Wipes
Band-Aids
Stain remover
Sunscreen
Deodorant
Kid socks
Kid underwear
Shelf-stable snacks
Water
You customize yours based on the sentence:
“Why do we NEVER have a ___ when we need one?”
That’s what goes in the bin.
Don’t Let It Become Car Clutter
Once every month or so:
Throw away trash.
Replace used supplies.
Check snacks.
Swap seasonal items.
Done.
The point isn’t preparing for every possible emergency.
It’s preventing one forgotten hair tie from requiring a U-turn.
